Mihai Suster

Vice President & Co-founder

Mihai Suster is a graduate of the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw (UW). He completed his master’s degree in Physics and his bachelor’s degree in Nanostructural Engineering. Then, he studied for four years at the Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences at UW. He was a scholarship holder in projects of the Foundation for Polish Science (NLPQT POIR), the National Science Centre (SHENG), the National Centre for Research and Development (EXODIAGNOS), and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (Best of the Best 4.0). He currently works at the International Centre for Translational Eye Research ICTER.

His scientific interests include plasmonics (in particular, designing and fabricating nanostructures for SERS biosensing) and strong-field physics (non-dipole effects in light-matter interactions). He published the results of his original research in four scientific papers and presented them at prestigious international conferences, where he gave 6 presentations and presented 4 posters.

One of his most important achievements was coordinating a team of over 40 people responsible for 3D printing face shields for healthcare workers during the first wave of COVID-19 in Poland. As a result of this initiative, the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw donated 15,000 visors to over 200 medical facilities throughout Poland.

He completed the Harvard Business School Online course “Management Essentials” financed by the ministerial program “Best of the Best” 4.0. He also won a bronze medal in the overall classification of the international competition The University Physics Competition 2019. He also has several years of experience in running a limited liability company.

From 2017 to 2019, he served as a member of the board of the “Nanorurki” Scientific Club, where he was responsible for the finance section. He was also an active member of The Student Association of Optics and Photonic of the University of Warsaw (KNOF-UW). He co-organized the OSA Siegman International Summer School on Lasers 2020, International Physicists’ Tournament 2020, three editions of the Young Scientists’ Symposium, several smaller scientific events and six international non-scientific events for several thousand participants each (Shanghai, Tokyo, Budapest, Prague, Krakow, Warsaw).

What is more, he categorically disagrees with Piotr Węgrzyn on the fact that the best cake is cheesecake – everyone knows that brownie is best.

Mihai is one of the four co-founders of Candela Foundation and serves as Vice President of the Management Board.
