We aim to understand the fundamental physical properties of novel quantum emitters, such as defect centers in layered materials or atomic defects in diamond, silicon carbide and gallium nitride. Toward this end we plan to study them with resonant spectroscopy techniques. High order nonlinear optical signals, that provide most complete set of information, are so far too weak to be measured for such defects. We want to change this by functionalization of the emitters with an open cavity with a small mode volume. The main task of the project will consist of developing schemes of lateral femtosecond laser excitation of quantum emitters that are embedded in low mode volume and high finesse open microcavity.
Keywords: Open tunable optical microcavities, single-photon emitters, finesse, Q factor of a microcavity, resonant spectroscopy
